Paul Jackson, CEO of TasWaste South, made a submission in response to the Final Report on the Future of Local Government Review, released by the Local Government Board. Jackson commended the thoroughness of the review and expressed support for the proposed amendments to the Local Government Act, particularly those related to mandating participation in shared services, as outlined in Recommendation 9.

TasWaste South emphasised the importance of aligning the expansion of shared services with key principles identified by the Board, such as addressing agreed problems, building consensus, and ensuring local accountability. He noted that TasWaste South’s recent establishment adhered to many of these principles, contributing to its success. Jackson also highlighted the need for careful assessment of future shared service opportunities through these guiding principles to maximise their success.

TasWaste South values its involvement in this generational opportunity to shape the future of local government and looks forward to the Government’s commitments following the consultation period.
