Our Member Councils
Tasmania’s 12 southern councils have a proud track record in reducing waste.
Some of their many initiatives included zero waste to landfill, kerbside food and organics collections, educational work, single-use plastic container bans and more.
Then in 2020, the 12 southern councils signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work co-operatively on waste management and resource recovery issues.
That led to the setting up of a new Joint Authority to manage a shared recycling contract and progress other waste-related issues for the region.
All 12 councils became members of the Joint Authority, now known as TasWaste South.
